Hobbies,
Arts And Crafts
For School Aged Children
by: Jan Conner
It can be more worthwhile than you might think to introduce your
kids to arts and crafts for school aged children.
There's a lot to be said about staying occupied. My father told
me this when I was a little kid in elementary school. He always
said, "One of the best ways to keep your children out of trouble is
by getting them interested in sports, outdoor activities, arts,
crafts and hobbies." I suppose that made sense. Well, today I know
that it does make sense.
There Are Many Types Of Hobbies
Looking back, I can recall all the things he introduced me to.
Two that really took are karate and painting. I spent countless
hours staying busy with both of these hobbies growing up. I never
had time to go out and get into trouble with drinking or drugs.
If you're a parent, this is serious food for thought. What do
your children love? I started with my daughter when she was only
two years old, I exposed her to all sorts of art. She loved it!
From then on, I knew what arts, crafts and hobbies tickled her
fancy. Soon came the music as well.
Now she is 8 years old, and spending a couple hours a day
painting, drawing and playing a keyboard. The rest of her free time
is enjoyed outdoors playing.
This is a great start in my book. It's not difficult when you
introduce your little ones to arts, crafts and hobbies at an early
age. They are so impressionable then. And they're more than happy
to play with paint, throw a ball, or help construct a model.
Your participation with them is often the key. You see, when it
comes to crafts and hobbies in the first years, your child wants to
do everything with you. As he/she grows, they will become more
advanced with what they love and naturally more independent.
Find plenty of ideas on the web. It's the first place I turn if
I'm searching for something new and exciting. Are you trying to
find arts and crafts for school aged children? Not a problem
if you search for hobby shops online.
You'll receive more ideas than you can handle. Another excellent
place to check out is Michael's craft store. There's probably one
located in your area. Take your child along with you and browse to
see where their interests lie. I guarantee they'll see something to
strike their fancy.
Here are some types of hobbies that might appeal to you and your
child:
- Painting
- Sewing
- Quilting
- RC Cars
- Sculpting
- Ceramics
- Scrapbooking
- Karate or Martial Arts
- Pet Keeping
- Photography
- And so many others...
There are plenty of hobbies, arts and crafts for school aged
children available. Just keep experimenting and you'll eventually
find one that will interest your child for the long run.
