My Discovery Of
The Wonders Of Handmade Soap
by: Julia Kozar
I recently discovered a new passion - handmade soap. They
come in a variety of shapes, sizes and smells and are made of all
sorts of interesting ingredients.
Here's how it all started - A good friend of mine makes homemade
candles for a living. Last year, I went with her to many different
craft fairs to help her sell her candles.
While I was there, I had the opportunity to walk around and look
at all the things other crafters had to offer. I found that I was
drawn to and would often buy handmade soap from various
vendors.
It’s not like I needed the soap, but I would buy it anyway. Many
of them are still in my closet, though I have managed to use a few
of them.
I don’t know what it is about handmade soap that appeals to me
the most - maybe it's the colors and textures. I also enjoy
supporting the crafters who want to earn extra money selling their
goods. There are a lot of people who make handmade soap, and it
seems to be one of the most popular items there.
There never seems to be a shortage of great things to buy, but I
always end up leaving with a bag full of soap. And those soaps end
up making great gifts for the holidays.
I had the idea of making my own handmade soap. But once I
started reading up on the processes of making really good soap, I
decided it was not something I wanted to try right now. Some of the
ingredients in handmade soap can be dangerous, and I don’t have a
proper workspace in which to make soap at this time.
Perhaps when we own our own home, I'll be able to set aside some
space to make my own soap. I may even try my hand at candles.
If you're interested in making handmade soap in your home, there
are many sites on the Internet you can turn to for help in this
endeavor.
Do your research first so that you know what you are doing
before you get started. If you know exactly what you need to make
your handmade soap, you will be less likely to waste your money on
ingredients that you really don't need.
You can find a variety of different ways to make your own soap,
and you can find people to give you advice from all over the world.
Once you start, you may find yourself wanting to try more and more
different craft items.
If you make more than one thing, you may even be able to sell
gift baskets to make some extra money from home. It really could
turn into a profitable enterprise.
