How My Singer Sewing Machine Helped Me
by: Kim Granger
What do you picture when you think of the traditional craft of
sewing? If you're like a lot of people you'll probably answer - "a
Singer sewing machine is one of the first things that popped
into my mind."
This icon has graced the homes of seamstresses and crafts
enthusiasts for generations. Many people love to collect older
versions of the Singer sewing machine while others favor the latest
and greatest, cutting edge version with all of the bells and
whistles.
Today’s Singer sewing machine offers every option that you could
possibly want in this sort of crafting appliance. The possibilities
are endless when it comes to the variety of projects that you can
create with this valuable tool. I couldn’t imagine working without
my updated version of the Singer sewing machine.
One of my absolute favorite hobbies is quilting. I have a lot of
great ideas for different quilt designs including cathedral quilt
patterns and baby quilt ideas as well. And I know it would be very
difficult for me to accomplish these projects without the newer
Singer sewing machine.
I must admit, I'm not the most talented garment maker and I
struggle with many of the stitching techniques. But the Singer
sewing machine helps me get the job done in spite of my
weaknesses.
I find that I can even create the most intricate appliqué
quilting designs with very little effort. The Singer sewing machine
is so easy to use that just about anyone can work with it. If I
can, trust me, just about anyone else can.
My passion for the craft of making unique quilts is relatively
new. I took on the craft while spending a lot of time indoors
recuperating from an accident. In order to keep me from getting too
depressed during my long recovery my parents introduced me to a
Singer sewing machine.
Although I wasn’t really thrilled with the idea of spending my
days sitting indoors, I did like the idea of adopting a great craft
that would make my time indoors productive. And I was very
productive. In no time at all I was making everything from pillows
to simple t shirts with my Singer sewing machine.
I later developed such a love for the craft that I began
collecting antique versions of the Singer sewing machine. But these
machines are rarely used by me because I'm way too spoiled by the
features of my newer version.
The years have now passed and, thankfully, there's not much
evidence of my injuries. But I have to admit that I am kind of glad
that I went through the entire ordeal. If it wasn’t for the bicycle
accident I would have never gotten my first Singer sewing machine.
I just couldn’t imagine doing without it now. I've learned that all
clouds really do have a silver lining.
